Nature at Hotel MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo

Energy, Water, and Resources

We implement energy efficiency and water optimization measures across all our facilities. From LED lighting and thermal control to efficient faucets and responsible consumption management systems, we take care of what you can't see but can feel.

We enjoy working with local suppliers, promoting local employment, and offering fair conditions. Sustainability is also about people: caring for those who are part of this house is part of our daily commitment.

Did You Know?

Eye-opening facts about the environment and tourism in Mallorca by MySeaHouse Flamingo. These short insights highlight how travel, nature, and responsible tourism intersect especially here on our beloved Playa de Palma.

Rainfall in Mallorca Sustainability MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Rainfall is rare and precious

Mallorca receives just 400 to 650 mm of rain per year, most of it in the autumn. That’s much less than cities like London or Paris, meaning water is a scarce resource. During the dry summer, most water comes from underground aquifers, which take decades to replenish.

Let’s make a difference together by: Choose shorter showers and reuse towels — every drop saved helps the island’s future. Hanging towels on the balcony clothesline saves more than 10 litres of water per day per room.

Sand Sustainability Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

A grain of sand takes centuries to form

It can take hundreds of years for a single grain of beach sand to form through the natural erosion of rocks, shells, and coral. Playa de Palma’s sand is particularly delicate and vulnerable to erosion from overuse and poor coastal management.

Let’s make a difference together by: Avoid taking sand with you, and shake off towels and shoes before leaving the beach.

Girl with sunscreen on the beach in Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Not all sunscreens are created equal

Standard sunscreens contain chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which can persist in water for days and harm marine life, even in small concentrations. Just one drop of non-biodegradable sunscreen in the sea can contaminate up to 25,000 liters of water.

Let’s make a difference together by: Use reef-safe or biodegradable sunscreen and apply it at least 30 minutes before swimming.

Seabed with fish in Posidonia Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Posidonia is Mallorca’s underwater guardian

The Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows are not algae, but a protected plant species. They provide oxygen, protect beaches from erosion, and are key carbon sinks that absorb CO₂.

Let’s make a difference together by: Never anchor boats near them and avoid walking over floating remains, they are signs of a healthy marine ecosystem.

Air conditioning on the terrace Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Comfort with care for the planet

The average hotel guest in Mallorca uses 3 to 4 times more energy per day than a local resident. Air conditioning accounts for a large share, especially in summer.

Let’s make a difference together by: Set the room temperature to 24°C, close curtains during the hottest hours, and turn off AC when leaving the room.

Woman cycling through Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Going car-free matters

Most journeys in Playa de Palma are under 5 km, yet many are still done by car or taxi. Switching to cycling or walking not only reduces emissions, it’s also the best way to discover the island’s beauty.

Let’s make a difference together by: use a bike and enjoy the seafront promenade without emissions. Your booking includes a free bike hire so you can enjoy the seafront promenade.

Organic products at the market Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Seasonal food = lower footprint

Did you know that importing food by air creates 50 times more CO₂ emissions than shipping? Local, seasonal produce has a far smaller footprint and it tastes better too.

Let’s make a difference together by: Choose dishes that feature Mallorcan ingredients and visit local markets.

Woman recycling at MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Small waste, big issue

A single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 50 litres of water. Some plastics take 200 years to decompose. Even items that seem harmless, such as chewing gum, can persist for decades.

Let’s make a difference together by: Dispose of waste responsibly or minimise waste wherever possible. Use our recycling points located on each floor.

MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo, a responsible and committed company

The entire team at Hotel MySeaHouse Flamingo feels deeply committed to our social reality. We focus our social and charitable efforts on helping people grow, starting with education and the basic needs of children and young people. The pillars of our social policy are: The protection of children, especially where economic and organizational support is needed, with the goal of improving their current quality of life and future opportunities. Education, both academic and emotional, at all levels, promoting the transmission of knowledge and values. This commitment takes shape every year through a series of actions that MySeaHouse Flamingo initiates, supports or participates in. We invite you to learn more about some of the projects we collaborate on:

Children from the Rana Foundation MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

RANA Foundation

RANA is a non-profit foundation based in the Balearic Islands, whose social mission is to prevent abuse and child and adolescent sexual violence through awareness, education, and networking activities. They organize storytelling sessions for children in schools and other educational centers to prevent child sexual abuse. Last year, MySeaHouse Flamingo funded 120 of the 269 storytelling sessions held; the rest were covered by a subsidy from the Consell. RANA also offers a psychological support service for adults who suffered sexual abuse in childhood — part of our contribution also goes to those who seek help from RANA and cannot afford the service.

Nazaret Foundation

The mission of the Nazaret Foundation is to provide temporary shelter and comprehensive education for children and young people of all genders coming from environments with severe family and social difficulties. They work in service of human dignity and quality of life. MySeaHouse Flamingo covers medical needs that are not included in public healthcare, such as dental care and other consultations requiring regular attention and specific treatment due to the patient’s circumstances, including gynecology, psychology, and psychiatry.

LAMSA

It is a football academy in Ghana and a non-profit association in Spain. It is located in Buduburam, a community in the Central Region of Ghana known for having been home for many years to a large number of Liberian refugees fleeing civil war. Although the situation has improved, the community still faces challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic services. LAMSA’s main goal is to improve the quality of life for the children of the community through football. With the financial support of MySeaHouse Flamingo, we are able to invest in the weekly meals for our players and, most importantly, cover the annual rent of the Lamsa House.

Burundi Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Burundi

The Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul has been present in Burundi for 60 years, addressing the community’s most vital needs: food, education, and evangelization. Since the genocide that devastated the country in 1972, they have created shelters for orphans, which have since evolved into education and care centers. Today, the sisters leading the project are native to the region. Last year, with the contribution of MySeaHouse Flamingo, they were able to build a shelter for the families of patients at the local health center — located over six hours away on foot. The donation also helped cover part of their annual food needs.

Food and vitamins for children in BASECO Mallorca MYSEAHOUSE Flamingo Hotel

Philippines Mission, Baseco Tondo, Manila

Our mission is focused on Baseco, Tondo, one of the most marginalized areas of Manila, where people live in inhumane conditions of poverty. Around 23,000 families live in the area, each with an average of 6 to 7 children. We carry out our mission at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, where we offer a feeding and Christian formation program for around 60 children from the area. Through this “Feeding Program”, we provide catechesis to the children and then distribute a meal and vitamins to support their growth. In addition, we share faith, life, and mission with about 20 women who receive formation and support our work. MySeaHouse Flamingo contributes to the feeding program, which benefits around 100 families throughout the year.
